Piney Grove Baptist Church Staff
Rev. Mark A. Reece, Jr. – Pastor
Our pastor is a native of Surry County and has a passion for rural ministry. His journey with us at Piney Grove began when he was called as Minister of Youth and Education in the Spring of 2006. In August of 2009, he was called as our Pastor. Rev. Reece loves the art of preaching and the challenge of teaching, but receives the most fulfillment in watching families and individuals grow in their faith. It was Piney Grove’s commitment to missions and the local community that assured him he was in the right place.
He resides on his hobby farm and enjoys gardening and raising small-scale livestock. He is also an avid outdoorsman. “In conjunction with ministering on a shared journey with the fine people of Surry County,” he says, “the many opportunities to spend time in the great outdoors make the foothills of North Carolina an adventurous place to live.” While he loves being home, he loves to travel both domestically and internationally.
He loves sports and playing on the Piney Grove church softball team. He is also a die-hard Wake Forest Demon Deacon fan and rarely misses a game. In addition to serving as our pastor, he has taught the Introduction to the New Testament, Introduction to the Old Testament and Religion in America at Surry Community College. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy and a minor in Middle East Studies from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2005. In 2008, he earned the Master of Divinity from Wake Forest University.
Alex C. Gallimore – Minister of Youth
Alex came to PGBC in December of 2009. He is originally from Atlanta, Georgia where he studied comparative religions at Georgia State University. Alex believes that true ministry is located at the various intersections of faith and culture where he desires to see a generation of young people awakened to Christ as life. He believes that this is accomplished when we discover who God made us to be and passionately live lives of love out in the world.
Alex is married to Allison and lives in Winston-Salem where he is currently pursuing his Master of Divinity at Wake Forest University School of Divinity. The couple have a dog named Suzy who is both sweet and terrible.
A few of Alex’s favorite things include: reading, traveling, blogging, cheering for the Atlanta Braves, Apple computers, Chick-Fil-A, and J. Crew.
